Rack and pinion gearing parts
The pinion, a circular gear, works with a rack or linear gear to convert a revolving motion into linear motion. Rack and pinion gearing systems are fitted in most cars, small trucks, and SUVs while larger trucks and heavy-duty vehicles have recirculating ball steering.
There are two main functions for a rack and pinion gear set: the conversion of the steering wheel’s rotational motion into the linear motion required for a vehicle’s wheels to turn, and the reduction of gears for easier steering to turn the wheels.
Rack and pinion systems are a common component in railways. Racks can be found between train rails and interact with pinions attached to locomotives and train cars. This makes it easier for trains to move up steep inclines, as in underground mining situations.

Bevel gearing parts

The tooth form of a straight-tooth bevel gear is similar to that of a spur gear, but its geometry tapers toward the point of a pitch cone or back cone. For a mating set of gears both cones must meet at a common point. As a result, bevel gears cannot be interchanged like of spur gears can.
Curved tooth or helical bevel gears are used with intersecting shafts. The spiral tooth form enables more tooth contact, greater high-speed capacity, and quieter operation.
